Innuendo central – Metal Gear Solid

Hideo Kojima is one dirty old man. The mastermind of the Metal Gear Solid series has thrown dozens of innuendos into his games. We can’t blame him either. When James Bond, the world’s most charming womaniser, is one of the series’ biggest influences, a good but of sleaze can’t be left out.

With Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance on the way we thought it would be a fitting time to look back at the best bits of smut that have been secretly put into our favourite stealth game.

Character Names:

To start of with, the main character’s name is Snake. For the different games and characters there have been different versions of this, including Solid Snake and Liquid Snake. In Metal Gear Solid 3 we even get the codename Naked Snake, who ends up with only one eye. Throw in these names with some references to penetrating bases or going down elevator shafts and you’ve got some grade A innuendos.

There’s even other characters such as Solidus and Big Boss that only help to add to this theory.

Game Names:

The most recent one here is Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance. The coupling of Solid and Rising led to a few chuckles when the game was announced. If there was a porn film to be made from the series, Rising would be a strong contender, were it not for our next entry, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Yes our hero Snake does chomp down on a few slithery reptiles, but surely somebody had thought about the suggestive title’s name before it was finalised?
