Ten stupid FPS habits

1. Reloading 24/7

So you’ve just walked into a room, and used a solitary bullet to take out one guard. There’s nobody else around for a mile, but you still feel the need to reload. You’ve unloaded a clip and know that the next section will be the end of the level, that doesn’t matter though, you still better make sure you are fully loaded. The one gun that you rarely used was just fired on that massive boss, you wont use it again for a while, but you might as well reload now, you do it 24/7 anyway.

2. Shooting NPCs

The more you can’t do something, the more you want to. It’s like when your parent tells you not to go into THAT room, your first instinct is to go and see what all the fuss is about. The same works for NPCs in games, the majority of them are impervious to your bullets. No matter how much you shoot them, nothing happens. Waiting for the action to start, while our virtual buddies chat away, we like to let off some steam by shooting some ammo in the face.

3. Tutorials are for n00bs

When playing a FPS they are all pretty similar, right? So why the hell do we have to have a tutorial in every single one? Use the left thumbstick to move, the right stick to aim. We have been through this a million times by now just let us play the game already!

Unfortunately now and then we get unstuck by our own arrogance when an FPS has a new feature we are not familiar with, or mixes up the control schemes.
