Crytek announce Timesplitters Rewind

Hope was all but lost for the Timesplitters series after Free Radical Design went bust and were sold to Crytek. The German team felt that there wasn’t enough support behind the game to warrant a sequel, despite over 100,000 fans signing a petition for it.

While Crytek were not happy making a new Timesplitters game, they were happy enough to allow a small group of fans to work on the franchise and have given the greenlight toTimesplitters Rewind, which will take inspiration from the original trilogy released in the PS2 era.

Timesplitters Rewind will be released for free on PC and will retain what made the original games so great; signature characters, levels and weapons will all return.

Online play for the game will allow 8-16 player battles on the series’ game modes.

The game won’t be a simple port either, as project manager Michael Hubicka turned down the chance to use Timesplitter’s previous assets, instead deciding to create them from scratch.
