Footage of cancelled Star Wars FPS emerges
Star Wars: First Assault could have been something beautiful. The downloadable multiplayer game was leaked back in August and was meant to be a “predecessor” to Battlefield 3. Due for release this spring, First Assault was put on hold as to LucasArts were unsure about the game’s selling prowess amid the Disney takeover.
The Star Wars FPS clearly took a lot of inspiration from Call of Duty, Battlefield 3 and other contemporary titles in the genre. We can only begin to fathom what kill streaks there could have been; tie fighter runs, calling in Mace Windu for some back up or even an R2D2 ammo dispenser.
The two clips below are taken from trailers that were made for internal use at LucasArts. By the looks of things First Assault was almost completed. We find Disney’s lack of faith disturbing and hope they release this along with Star Wars titles on hold.
“The trailer contains all in-game footage, including known bugs and incomplete art,” said Kotaku’s source. “In the time since it was made, many improvements have been made in performance, completeness, and quality.”
