A few Assassin’s Creed 3 screenshots have emerged on the internet, showing us Connor as he traverses through the icy wilderness stalking an innocent doe.
While the lighting in these images and the overall feel is very convincing, the way snow seems to behave still needs some work done. In the image were the Assassin is stepping on a branch and, more severely, in the picture were he is approaching the deer, footprints aren’t presented correctly. As mentioned, especially in the screenshot with the doe, it looks like if the small fragile animal was dragging a body bag behind itself.
Maybe Ubisoft should call in Naughty Dog for some tips, but of course these screenshots still come from an unfinished product.
Nonetheless, what’s notable about these images, is how the trees are modelled. Something the developers mentioned in one of their AC3 demos was that it’s important that Connor doesn’t look like he’s “swinging through the trees like Tarzan”. It is impressive to see, how the detailed branching of various trees are depicted, in combination with the various light effects.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is planned to be released on October 30 on all major platforms.
