Indie studio Coilworks has announced their upcoming title Cloudbuilt, an old-school action platformer which encourages players to traverse obstacles as efficiently as posible.
Taking on the role of Demi, a “recently injured war-veteran in mental rehabilitation”, you must learn to master the world you are thrown into.
The game takes you through the thoughts of the protagonist, challenging you with 2D classic inspired platforming puzzles, which can be approached from different paths. Players will be able to master their completion times in 20 different levels, “each harder than the last”.
Cloudbuilt features a type of gameplay that appears to be quite fluent, with wall-runs, jumps and charge attacks seemlesly blending into one another. Nonetheless, what stands out is the vibrant colour palette and cel-shaded look.
When you read about this concept you may at first think about the Prince of Persia series, moreover the artistic reboot that was released. Though we hope that the final product, even with only 20 levels, will be some sort of Super Meat Boy 3D Prince of Persia hybrid, making it fun to perfect track records and allowing for new content to be made frequently.
