The Dead Island Facebook Page has been updated with news that a sequel to the 2011 zombie survival game is currently in the works.
Opening the post with an exclamation of “Braaaaaiins! More braaaaaaaaaaiiiins!”, the announcement revealed that the next instalment in the franchise, Dead Island Riptide, is under development for the console and PC platforms by developer Techland, the team behind the first title in the series.
Promises that a more extensive reveal, detailing the new perils awaiting players, will emerge this summer rounded off the short announcement, leaving us to ponder what new and exciting additions could be making their way to the franchise.
The post ends, stating, “Stock up on zombie survival guides, water, ammunition, and watch this space!”
News that a film based on the game’s release trailer (and not the actual game) emerged in September last year, when Lionsgate announced that they have snapped up the rights to the popular CG video. The video’s portrayal of a family surviving against the odds in the wake of a zombie apocalypse, will provide the inspiration for the project.
