Recent have given the new zombie game a price tag of $49.99, ten dollars lower than the usual RRP of a game.
Today, Deep Silver confirmed that the new price-tag was correct. ”That’s not a placeholder that’s the real price!” they told in response to a question about pricing. ”It’s the end of a console cycle – we think this price makes a lot more sense given that.”
Aubrey Norris, marketing and PR manager at Deep Silver also confirmed that Dead Island: Riptide would be a brand new game and not a remake or re-release of the original.
Deep Silver are not the only company to voice concerns about game pricing. Andrew Wilson, EA Sports boss, suggested the price tags on new games may need to be reassessed, saying:
“There is a shift here. If we don’t get ahead of it, we will find ourselves in trouble. We have seen the Blockbusters and the HMVs change before our eyes. The corporate graveyard is littered with companies, mediums and entities that resisted where the consumer wanted to go.”
