Dragon’s Dogma may not have online play, but that has not stopped it trying to up the ante with social features. The latest announcement from Capcom is that players will now be able to face off against the Ur-Dragon, which is affected by the damage you and others do. You see, the Ur-Dragon is a tough mother and not designed to be taken out in one fight. The boss has been made to take tons of damage, but each time it does, the stats are saved online. This is similar to ‘raid’ techniques used in MMORPGs.
After a while the Ur-Dragon will be defeated by one lucky (or skilful) combatant who will receive a great reward and be placed in the Hall of Fame.
If you are not playing online then you will still be able to fight the Ur-Dragon, but will receive different rewards and the level will be suitably scaled.
The official blog describes the Ur-Dragon saying: “Legend tells of an immensely powerful creature that appears in the Everfall beneath Gran Soren. The creature is known as the Ur-Dragon, and it bears strength too great for one combatant.”
Dragon’s Dogma will be released on May 22nd in North America with us Europeans having to wait three more days.
