After reaching out to GameStop about their secret GameInformer subscription alterations, the retailer has sent out a statement claiming that while digital versions are being pushed, they are not actually changing anything without notice.
“Our stores display both versions at the register and, if no preference is indicated, we will sign up new members with Game Informer Digital to deliver the best content and experience,” a GameStop rep explained in an e-mail. “PowerUp membership renewals will continue with the customer’s previously selected format.”
However, reports have been coming in from people who only received digital versions of the magazine upon their subscription renewal, while others claim the opposite.
When it is taken into consideration that the early rumours about this policy change are in fact true for the most part, GameStop is possibly making sure that subscribers receive their physical copies after all, in an attempt to save their reputation.
