Since its announcement in 2011, Gree, an upcoming free-to-play gaming platform by a Japanese mobile gaming company, has teamed up with a series of Chinese and Korean developers. Just recently they have announced their partnership with Ubisoft and the mobile publisher Gameloft.
Ubisoft is planning on releasing a new mobile Assassin’s Creed franchise this December in both Japanese and English, while Gameloft is planning to deliver the next title from their popular Gangster franchise, titled Gang Domination.
In an interview with Gamasutra, Gree’s senior director of marketing and developer relations, Eros Resmini, said, “As a company that primarily has its game assets in Japan today, we think partnering with some high quality brands in the West is a great way to make the platform and the overall ecosystem of games better.”
Gree believes the still-unnamed service will help expand its free-to-play presence internationally, as the Tokyo-based company intends to launch the platform globally. It believes it can reach more than one billion users across Western and Asian markets.
The company believes that by combining a Western IP with Japanese mechanics, will make their project more internationally adaptable to expand their market. Resmini went on to explain that he plans to announce further Western partnerships as the new Gree platform nears its Q2 2012 release.
