Could Multiplayer in Hitman Work?

We were previously teased with an image, we believed to be a hint, for an upcoming multiplayer mode in Hitman: Absolution and while some are ruling it out at this point, IO just might have more up their sleeves than what we expect this E3.

The new “Attack of the Saints” trailer shows our favourite Agent as he recovers from a previous hit, before a group of nuns head towards the motel he resides in. We’re soon shown that these women are anything but women of god, as they unstrap and gear up to take out 47.

Now although with their latest trailer, the idea of taking a new approach to classic online games seems quite intriguing. In previous stealth games such as Metal Gear Solid 4 we were offered multiplayer modes with a similar concept to what Hitman could deliver.

Instead of having two fully decked assassin teams go head to head in a camping match, it would actually make sense to have one player be randomly assigned the role of Agent 47. A team of mercenaries are possibly given the role of protecting a VIP while the hitman lurks in the shadows. Equally, as in the trailer, the team of gunmen could possibly be given an objective while an assigned professional killer must lay out traps and secure a perimeter.

The possibilities are definitely there and especially in a game like Hitman: Absolution, simply implementing a classic multiplayer mode would be a waste, which is why we’re hoping to see some innovative ideas this E3.
