Lego City Undercover was shown at Nintendo’s E3 Press conference; an open world title enthused with the humour and charm we love from the Lego games.
Players take on the role of Chase McCain, a legend in the Lego City Police Department. Set in a sandbox environment, the game offers a series of options to explore the city, with various vehicles and acrobatic moves at your disposal.
The tone and general jokey attitude, which has become synonymous with the Lego games franchise, emerges through in the E3 trailer. In one scene, a criminal is clinging to the edge of a building, though his hand falls loose from its Lego socket causing him to almost plummet to a bricky demise, while another scene shows Chase assert “I know Kung-Fu”, before engaging a mysterious bald figure in a Dojo, offering charming reference to The Matrix.
Nintendo’s new Wii U GamePad controller is featured heavily in the trailer as well, allowing players to scan the environment when held up to the television, or providing a separate screen on which the player can call dispatch, for new assignments.
Lego City Undercover will launch for Nintendo Wii U and Nintendo 3DS, although no firm date yet exists for this plucky little title.
