Metal Gear Solid 5 confirmed: “not yet finished with Solid Snake”

Solid Snake

Metal Gear mastermind Hideo Kojima has confirmed to French magazine IG that Metal Gear 5 is on the way and that Solid Snake will be returning.

Many people thought that Solid Snake’s days of tactical espionage action had come to a close at the end of Guns of the Patriots, but it would seem we are not quite done with the moustached hero just yet.

The folks over at Eurogamer France have dived into the article to pluck out (and thankfully translate) some of the details revealed by Kojima, regarding the fifth instalment in the series.

Information is scarce, but Kojima hints that the game will be going for a more Deus Ex: Human Revolution style of infiltration, with characters able to interact with one another more so than in previous games.

He also confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 5 will run on the Fox Engine. Besides small morsels like that, however, Kojima was unable to elaborate further, for fear of death by a ‘PR Ninja girl’ lurking nearby.

Nevertheless, Kojima was able to add:

”We have no yet finished with Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end of Guns of the Patriots.”

Gametrailers also managed to uncover some information from the interview regarding Metal Gear Rising: Revengeanceduring which Kojima said:

“This [Revengeance] is not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It is a spinoff that tries something different.”

There was no word about the Metal Gear Solid franchise from E3 besides further details regarding the spinoff, which focuses on Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty protagonist Raiden.

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is slated for an early 2013 launch on the Xbox 360 and PS3 (and not PC, despite earlier plans to make it available on Windows). A demo will also be bundled in with HD remake of Kojima’s other big franchise, Zone of the Enderslater this year.
