Spike TV have released new footage from Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. The spin-off plays like your typical Platinum Games title, with fast and fluid combat.
The gameplay highlights several of the new abilities Raiden has obtained with his new cyborg implants. Few details are given about the story, but we are told Revengeance is set a few years after Metal Gear Solid 4 and that “cyber technology has spread throughout the world”.
In the game Raiden will be able to use Free Slash Mode, slowing down time and allowing you to pull off a set of pin point slashes, slicing your opponents into pieces. In one instance Raiden beheads a begging soldier with ease. When in this precision mode Raiden can also pull off specials attacks, such as a move that rips the enemy’s spine from their neck. The environment can be destroyed with this feature, as Raiden slices down a girder to fall onto a car, causing an explosion.
Combat seems pretty intense, switching from one enemy to the next rapidly. By the end of the demo our silver-haired hero is taking down a Geko with some impressive moves that mix normal combos with QTEs to create a cinematic fight scene.
Levels should be quite large too allowing for Raiden to scale buildings with the press of a button and spring into battle at a relentless pace.
The whole thing oozes Platinum Games’ slick and frantic style and we cannot think of a better developer to handle the game. We hope to see more of Metal Gear Solid Rising: Revengeance later at E3.
