In an interview on GameTrailers with Hans Lo, Senior Producer at Netherrealm Studios, for Mortal Kombat on the PSVita at this year’s GDC, Lo explained some of the new additions coming to the MK handheld port and how it compares to its console counterpart.
First and foremost, all of the modes from the console version have made it to the Vita, including the story mode, the full roster of fighters on top of which all the DLC characters have been added and an all new Challenge Tower. The handheld version also runs at a smooth 60 FPS and is online compatible with either Ad-Hoc or Wifi.
Some of the fancy hardware capabilities have also made it into the 2D fighter in the form of minigames and special command features. Touchscreen inspired game modes have led to the creation of a few Fruit Ninja spin offs alongside some gyroscope enhanced balance games. Combat has been made more accessible with the ability to use touch-commands for the execution of fatalities or x-ray moves.
The title will be released sometime this April, so prepare to get your fix of gory Kombat on the go.
