Closing off the Nintendo E3 Press Conference, attendees got their first glimpse at Nintendo Land, set to launch with the Wii U hardware.
The new mini-game collection, similar to previous titles from the developer such as Wii Play or the Wii Sports titles, will include a selection of 12 Nintendo-themed experiences.
Only five of these mini-games have been revealed to those at E3: multiplayer games include The Legend of Zelda: Battle Quest; Luigi’s Ghost Mansion and Animal Crossing: Sweet Days.
Appearing on behalf of the singleplayer experience are Donkey Kong’s Crash Course and Takamaru’s Ninja Castle.
The demonstration given on stage during the Press Conference focused on Luigi’s Ghost Mansion - four players could view their characters on screen from a top down perspective as they navigated the maze like mansion. Flashlights allow the players to scout for the ghost loose in the mansion, but with limited battery power, you have to choose your time to turn it on and damage the ghost.
Player five observes the experience from a similar top down perspective through the screen on the GamePad – the player can observe all four players and the ghost as he hunts them waiting for the right moment to pounce. The GamePad player must then help the other players survive the mansion.
Nintendo Land will introduce gamers to all the new functions on offer with the Wii U, allowing them to experience the advances in gameplay and social interaction while playing with the franchises, which we are all familiar with.
Despite the likelihood that it could prove to be the most successful piece of software for the Wii U at launch, the auditorium responded with scattered applause when it was revealed that a second trailer for Nintendo Land was to close the show. Hopes of an HD Metroid, Zelda, Mario or Star Fox were abruptly crushed in its wake.
Maybe next year.
