Persona 4: Arena beats Street Fighter IV’s opening sales figures

If you have been reading Xbigy Games for a while you may have noticed that we have run quite a few stories on Persona 4: Arena. From what we have seen of the game it looks amazing but we feared that it would not sell brilliantly. It seems that the Japanese market has guaranteed this beat-’em up wont appear in bargain bins, by outselling Street Fighter IV, BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger and Tekken 6′s launch sales. Arc System Work’s latest game managed to even beat the aforementioned game’s re-releases, notching up an impressive 129,386 copies sold within the first week!

These high sales figures are not necessarily down to the game’s looks or design. The Persona series is one of the most successful game franchises in Japan and this gives Persona 4: Arena a big fan base to market to.

We hope that this trend follows through to the European and American sales figures when the game is released later this year. Take a look at the initial sales figures below:

(2009) Street Fighter IV [PS3] – 86,075
