Atlus has released their first English tutorial video for Persona 4 Arena.

The new beat-’em up lets you control characters from Persona 3 and 4. Each character has their own persona (crazy mental characters to you and me) that they can use mid battle.

Some more simple game mechanics are shown off in the footage, but we are a little surprised by the direction that Arc System Works has taken with the game. The makers of Guilty Gear and Blazblue have really seem to have made a very simple combat system. By tapping the one button players can execute an ‘Auto Combo’ which can even link into a flashy looking ‘SP Skill’. I’m all for making games accessible but this may be too much. Hopefully with the balancing of Personas and different offence and defence types the game will be both challenging and fun.

That said, Persona 4 Arena does look like it has its fair share of depth with different counter attacks, specials and ultra combos. It looks like the game may be simple to execute moves, but hard to put all of the individual techniques together and master the game. It should not be forgotten that this is the first Persona 4  Arena tutorial video, so there is probably way more to learn.

We are really looking forward to Persona 4 Arena, we love Atlus’ RPG and Arc System Works’ previous games, so this is one of our day one purchases.
