No you read the title correctly, animal rights group PETA have launched a new campaign against Pokémon Black and White 2.
According to PETA, Pokémon promotes and imitates real life animal cruelty, teaching players immoral values.
“Much like animals in the real world, Pokémon are treated as unfeeling objects and used for such things as human entertainment and as subjects in experiments,” a spokesperson explained.
“The way that Pokémon are stuffed into pokéballs is similar to how circuses chain elephants inside railroad cars and let them out only to perform confusing and often painful tricks that were taught using sharp steel-tipped bullhooks and electric shock prods,” PETA went on to say. “…if PETA existed in Unova, our motto would be: Pokémon are not ours to use or abuse. They exist for their own reasons. We believe that this is the message that should be sent to children.
Well at least …
One good things to come out of this is PETA’s very own spoof game. I mean, why try to preach to gamers when you can just steal them? This mirrors Super TofuBoy, a game made to combat Super MeatBoy’s release and get more attention for PETA’s campaign, albeit while mocking them.
