This year’s TF2 Mix-UP 4 is in full throttle, collecting money for child’s play and giving donors the chance to land a spot in a match with some of the game industry’s most popular celebrities.
A supporter of the TF2 Mixup site posted, “Just a quick reminder that this is the last day to contribute if you want to take part. NO this is NOT an elaborate April Fools joke. Already OVER $9000 has been raised!
TF2 Mix-up is a team Fortress 2 Highlander match organised by a bunch of guys from the TF2 community. The last one went up on and has had over a million views.
This time the roster looks like a who’s who of PC gaming; Robin Walker (co-creator of Team Fortress) and Corey Peters from Valve Software, Nathan Purkeypile and Philip Nelson from Bethesda, Notch and thewreck from Mojang, Freddie Wong, Brian Brushwood … it’s a long list, I’ll let you pick out your own favourites.
The point here is that it’s Highlander (9 players on each team, 2 teams) but only 15 players are on the roster. This leaves 3 up for grabs.
Anyone who donates to Child’s Play charity using the widget on the site will be put into a raffle to possibly win a place on the team and some signed merch from Valve/Bethesda. While the donation widget will remain open, this is the last day to be in the competition. Don’t get put off by the total, someone just really really wanted to play and put in a huge amount, the average is only about $10-15.
Even if you don’t get to play whatever you gives still goes to the gamer’s charity, Child’s Play: an awesome charity that lets kids in hospitals play video games to help them forget, if only for a while, where they actually are.”
Seeing how video games have been able to bring people across the world together, to build massive communities, projects like this are something we should support more often.
