Capcom’s profits down 50%

Capcom announced that they have had a 50% decline in profits over the last six months. The Japanese powerhouse have not been on their best form recently with big budget games like Lost Planet 2, Bionic Commando and Dark Void lacking sales. Capcom have made a clear step to design games for the western audience which on the whole has been unsuccesful.

The biggest suprise of all came when Capcom announced their biggest money-maker, which you may have never even heard of. The Smurfs Villiage has made the biggest income for the company and has become a success after being enabled in Facebook. It appears casual gaming has become a big driving force in the games world.

“In addition, The Smurfs Village, which was launched jointly with Facebook, the world’s largest SNS, continued to enjoy success and served as the driving force in increasing Capcom’s financial results.”

It is a real shame as Capcom are behind some of the biggest names in the industry including Resident Evil and Street Fighter series. Maybe Capcom, if you start making games instead of re-releasing small updates and high priced DLC you’d make some money, just saying n’ all.

World of Warcraft Mists of Pandaria gets new trailer

If it where anywhere near Spring you might have thought this expansion pack for WoW was an April Fools joke. Blizzards newest addition to the MMORPG adds, well, kung-fu pandas into the mix.

Blizzared said: “While exploring the mysteries of an exotic new land and advancing to the new level cap of 90, players will experience a range of new content and game features, including new quests and dungeons, group scenarios and challenge modes, pet battles, and more.”

Knowing Blizzard the new race, as odd as they may seem, will work within their game and create a new set of fans. Hey who knows, maybe they are using this to advertise to kids…
