Assassin’s Creed 3′s your most anticipated game of E3 this year? How about Far Cry 3? The Ubisoft Press Conference will have it all!
Ubisoft are expected to show a superb software line-up at this year’s E3, with an especially strong showing for Nintendo’s new console, the Wii U, but time will tell whether or not they will live up to our lofty expectations!
Same as before, the article will be updated throughout the event, so remember to hit F5 or the Refresh button on your browser to see the latest information!
Check below for all the big news and reveals from Ubisoft!
Ubisoft have kicked off their press conference in bombastic musical style with 6 dancers on stage.
Flo Rida hits the stage to join the dancers, and Aisha Tayler has come out to join him to reveal herself as today’s host. You may remember her as Joey’s girlfriend, and then Ross’s girlfriend, from the latter series of Friends. I am not sure what else she has done in the last decade.
Life. Power. Play – Ubisoft’s motto of choice. “We are all a little gay” – Aisha Taylor’s phrase of choice when referencing the dancers earlier. Oh dear. Thankfully the torture can end for a moment as Far Cry 3 comes to the stage.
We transition to a topless woman straddling the player. Ubisoft is not pulling it’s punches with the sexual imagery today it seems.
Having managed to drag themselves away from the women for 2 seconds, the demo has changed to what we all know and love from the Far Cry series – beautiful, lush environments. We are returning to the island setting for the third instalment – bow and arrow in hand. Between Far Cry 3, Crysis 3, and Tomb Raider, the bow seems to be giving the old assault rifle strong competition.
The beautiful fire which made Far Cry 2 stand out returns as the demonstration sees the player stumble into a trap – the building he enters bursts into flames, forcing him to escape and engage the waiting enemies outside.
The environments are rich and colourful, full of great detail thanks to the psychotic villain you are forced to battle against. Drug induced delusions also provide an additional vehicle for unique, quirky imagery.
Exploration and discovery are two of the key features of the new Far Cry 3, and this isn’t limited to just one island, but an entire archipelago which you are free to investigate as you see fit.
“I want to get a tiger, use it as a weapon, and then shoot it.” Hello, PETA?
Far Cry 3 ends. Splinter Cell: Blacklist starts.
A stunning pre-rendered trailer for Blacklist showcases the new equipment and tactics Sam Fisher will be deploying throughout the latest instalment in the Spinter Cell franchise – welcome to Fourth Echelon.
“How many times Aisha gets girl wood this presentation.” Make it stop.
Next in line this presentation is Avengers Battle for Earth. Not limited to the line-up of heroes as seen in the film, this Avengers game will bring in the entire catalogue of Marvel’s superheroes. If the pre-rendered trailer is to be believed, the game will see popular superheroes Captain America and Iron Man battling against the likes of Venom and Magneto.
Swiftly moving on to Rayman Legends.
Fans of last year’s obscenely successful Rayman Origins will recognise the gameplay and aesthetic in this new title – the revitalisation of the Rayman franchise hasn’t ended yet, and the crazy critters latest adventure on the Wii U looks set to be as innovative as it is enjoyable. Touch screen control allows you to guide your characters through the colourful, quirky environments, replacing the need for traditional joystick input.
A new M-rated zombie shooter coming to Wii U from the folks at Ubisoft, someone has leapt on the jubilee bandwagon with a pre-rendered trailer set to a re-worked “God Save the Queen”, set in London, introducing ZombiU. Cars fall of Tower Bridge. Beefeaters slicing zombie heads off with their gun-mounted blade. Nothing more than a pre-rendered trailer shown sadly.
Just Dance 4, Your Shape Fitness, Rabbids Land, and many many more titles hinted at for the Wii U. But these are only worth a brief side note in the madness which is the Ubisoft conference. Time for something more meaty. Time for Assassin’s Creed 3.
Another pre-rendered trailer – but when it comes to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, no one complains. They know how to put together a beautiful cinematic and watching Connor leap and dive through a battlefield in order to reach his target is a sight to behold.
But they know what the audience want, and we don’t have to wait long before jumping into some gameplay demonstrations. Connor is in snowy New England for today’s showing, jumping from mountain side to trees with as much ease and grace as Ezio did on the buildings of Venice. Connor slays a deer, only to be confronted by a wolf pack – it is not clear if they are affiliated with the Templars. They are quickly dispatched with bullet and knife.
The snowy environment may look bland compared to Renaissance Italy, but Ubisoft have promised interesting urban environments will also feature heavily in the game. Nevertheless, the game looks as much like Red Dead Redemption as it does Assassin’s Creed – at least until combat starts, and the old familiar assassin move set reminds us which franchise we are really in.
Connor sneaks into a fort, getting the lay of the land before launching a bullet into a pile of nearby explosives – the distraction gives him the opportunity to engage his Templar target and to do what these assassins do best.
A gameplay trailer rounds off the Assassin’s Creed 3 outing, showing that Connor’s enemies will truly be a diverse group – animals, Americans and British will take on our new Assassin in a diverse range of environments, be it the wilderness or the city.
Ubisoft are keen to become involved in the eSport genre – sadly rather than introducing us to clearly, the two presenters are having some comical back and forth. Something about men finishing first – how awfully clever.
Shootmania is a first person shooter hoping to break in to the eSport craze. With stiff competition like Counter Strike, and the free-to-play titles such as DoTA 2 and LoL, Ubisoft face a significant challenge introducing a new title into this highly competitive section of games industry.
Ubisoft are keen to reassure the gaming community that they are dedicated to online play and creating social experiences with their games. Trial Evolution, Ghost Recon Online, Settlers Online, and many more titles each help create online communities for gamers to interact with.
Set to close off the show, Ubisoft show off one a new IP on the horizon – a game fully rooted in the digital age. A world of cities controlled by operating systems (ctOS) – these operating systems controlled by private companies. Everything can be hacked.
Watch Dogs makes the entire city your weapon. Every person leaves a digital shadow, and everyone has secrets.
A third person action adventure title, Watch Dogs allows you to interact with the world in a new way – hack devices, crash computers, and manipulate the technology around you to reach your targets and avoid detection. Hack personal files to uncover information which can be useful later, or eavesdrop on phone calls to give you that extra edge.
Not limited to one protagonist, the game seems to revolve around the concept of multiple people with access to the Central Operating System. Everyone is connected. Everything can be hacked.
A couple more verbal flourishes of slightly uncomfortable dialogue, and that’s a wrap! Only one more show tonight – Sony in a little over an hour and a half. Stick with us for all the news!
