WipEout is one of those iconic games that really represented a time in gaming. I still remember booting up my PS1, playing the futuristic racer and being amazed by it. The franchise has done Sony well over the years, and while it may not have broken any sales records, the games were still brilliant. That is why we were upset by last month’s news that Sony were to close Studio Liverpool, the team responsible for the WipEout series.
All is not completely lost, though. This morning a post was made on the WipEout 2048 saying, “WE.ARE.ALIVE”, along with the image below.
Alas, it seems that this is referring to the series rather than the development team, with the following statement released:
Good afternoon Pilots
As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.
It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!WipEout’s passion will live on – Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.
WE ♥ WO!
