Ubisoft have announced that they have ramped up their efforts for the film adaptation of Assassin’s Creed. Work on the screenplay is “beginning immediately.” According to the film should have its cast and crew set in stone as soon as next Summer.
The film was announced back in July with German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender producing the movie. FOX and New Regency will both work on Assassin’s Creed.
It appears that Ubisoft have retained their rights to control ”key elements” of the film, something which they disputed when discussing film ideas with Sony.
Ubisoft Motion Pictures CEO, Jean-Julien Baronnet said:
Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures.
Bringing aboard New Regency’s renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin’s Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise.
