GameCity 6:
Tonight in Nottingham, England for 6th year running a video game festival will be opening until this Saturday. Last year, GameCity gathered a record holding 45,000 attendees who enjoyed a range of showcases, talks and events in Nottingham’s best public venues.
The exciting events arranged for this year’s festival include but are not limited to:
French game designer Eric Chahi who was the mind behind ‘Another World’ will be showcasing his new game ‘From Dust.’
This year’s GameCity Prize will be being announced, the nominees are: Minecraft, ilomilo, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP, Pokémon Black, Portal 2, Child of Eden and Limbo.
Richard Lemarchand, Naughty Dog lead game designer, discusses Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception.
Robin Hunicke, from Thatgamecompany; made famous by his amazingly minimalist game Flower, will be holding late-night presentation of TGC’s new game Journey.
Unfortunately I am nowhere near Nottingham, if you are why not drop us a line telling us how GameCity 6 went.
Three Competitors for Christmas #1:
The games rush is well and truly underway. Last week’s UK game chart was shaken by the entry of Batman: Arkham City, which soared to number 1 by doubling the sales record of its predecessor Batman: Arkham Asylum, with 4.6 million units sold in one week!
For next week, with its new, long awaited release, Battlefield 3 is expected to knock Arkham City off the top spot with a massive marketing campaign urging on sales. However, we’ll have to wait and see if Battlefield 3 is going to gain as much success as predicted in comparison to the new addition to the Batman franchise.
In addition to this struggle, let’s introduce another competitor: Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 which anticipated release is marked on our calendars for 8th November. Given the previous success of the other Call of Duty games, it would be realistic to say that MW3 will beat Arkham City and Battlefield 3 to the number 1 spot on the UK game chart. Experts have made their conclusions, and have stated that the popular FPS game will have double the holiday sales of its direct rival Battlefield 3, becoming Christmas number one.

If you live in the USA or Canada, you may well already have a copy of Battlefield 3 in your respective console/PC. For that, I’m jealous but I hope you’re enjoying the game. For the rest of the world, we have a couple more days to wait, and for one unfortunate country they have a lot longer to wait. My condolences. A list of release dates for countries is provided below:
