Rex Feature

Good Smile Company, a manufacturer of figures and hobby products, is releasing a model of the bipedal nuclear tank we’ve all learned to love.

ThreeA created the figure together with Yoji Shinkawa, art director for Metal Gear Solid and designer of Metal Gear Rex. The 36cm tall model features all of the tanks armaments including a 59cm long replica of the nuclear powered railgun. A lighting system is also in place giving the railgun a charging look and fully illuminating the cockpit alongside some blue headlights.

Commemorating the Metal Gear series’ 25th anniversary the mini Rex will be released in August this year for 43800 Yen (which is roughly 340 GBP or 530 USD). The “dirty” paint job and attention to detail really give the model a nice look, only now that I’ve seen it, I can’t un-see a smiling dinohead with a glowing gap in the front of his jaw.
