A Danish grant of 1 million kroner (approximately £109,000) has revealed that a sequel to the hit XBLA and PSN game Limbo may be in the works.
The Danish government’s website posted a series of projects that it has helped to fund. A game, which is currently titled as “PROJECT 2″, is listed as Playdead’s successor to Limbo:
“PROJECT 2 – as the working title indicates – Playdead’s second major project after the success of the game LIMBO. Through unique puzzles and changing scenarios narrated the story of one boy’s struggle against evil forces through questionable experiments on human bodies, trying to take over the world. The game is in colour and set in a 3D environment, while the gameplay takes place as a 2D platformer.”
The only image tied to the game shows a small boy dragging a body through the rain. Presumably this has to do with the human experiments discussed in the description. There is something rather ominous about the lights in the background too and we would not be surprised if this is some kind of mechanical threat. After all, that tree branch from the first game ended up being a spider…
The mystery game will be released onto PlayStation 3, Xbox, PC, and Mac. There is currently no release date for this title.
