An Xbox 720 (codenamed Durango) dev-kit put up for sale on the internet appears to be the real deal, according to an investigation by Digital Foundry.
The developer unit appeared on sale via a developer forum during the weekend and at one point reached the lofty price of $10,000. Despite looking like a regular PC tower, the hardware inside appeared genuine and was said to feature an Intel CPU and a Nvidia Graphics card. To round off the impressive specs the dev-kit was said to boast more than 8GB in memory.
Industry publication Digital Foundry reportedly contacted the man in possession of the kit and a number of development sources to confirm the authenticity of the product.
A dev-kit such as the one revealed to the world this weekend serves as a rough-guide to developers as to the final specifications of the machine when it finally launches. As such, it should not be seen as a true representation of the finished product.
