Gaikai/Sony Deal could bring Backwards Compatibility to the PS3

Gaikai

Rumours abound that a deal between Sony and the video game streaming service Gaikai could bring the back catalogue of games from Sony’s former consoles to the PS3.

The deal, which if true is expected to feature in Sony’s E3 Press Conference next Monday, would see both first-party and third-party PSone and PS2 games made available to PS3 users through the Gaikai service.

Gaikai already offers a broad selection of games from a variety of publishers, including Warner Bros., EA Games, Ubisoft and Capcom, however, until now these have been exclusive to PC users.

Sony originally offered PS3 users backwards compatibility with PS2 and PSone titles back at the consoles launch, however, later SKUs dropped the compatibility. Gamers wishing to access to older Sony titles currently have to download them through the Playstation Store.
