During today’s Microsoft E3 conference, we were shown a new form of tablet integration, Smart Glass, for the Xbox360. Needless to say, it looks like Microsoft is trying to imitate the functionalities of the Wii U tablet.
The demo starts off with some interesting ideas, combining entertainment programs such as Game of Thrones with a tablet device to enhance the viewer experience by giving extra character info and details on the current locations shown on screen with a map. When the ideas was shifted to games on the Xbox360, the entire idea felt somewhat close to what Nintendo had teased us with before.
A short look at Halo showed the parallel access of a database and community page in tandem with the actual gameplay though the idea enhanced controls to plan out moves in sports matches felt like it was directly taken from the Wii U.
Now surely many would argue that Apple is the frontrunner in tethering their devices to create new experiences, however, with the introduction of the Wii U tablet, many appeared to incorporate new devices with their hardware instead of mere controllers, leaving us wondering what actually inspired Smart Glass.
