N.O.V.A. 3 – the “Crysis” of mobile gaming

Gameloft has released a new trailer for the latest instalment in their popular shooter series, Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, showing off graphics that resemble or even outmatch the quality of some downloadable games for the Xbox360 and Playstation 3. Did I not mention is for the iOS?

Taking control of the series protagonist, Kal Wardin, players have confronted aliens in the past, though the gameplay felt more reminiscent of early Halo instalments. The latest footage has Kal facing off against gun wielding tentacle creatures in a modern city, which resemble the theme found in a quite familiar Crytek title.

Although the design of the models and the overall setting look like they were directly ported from Crysis 2, the visuals brought forth with the Unreal 3 engine are simply impressive, considering the game is supposed to run on iPhones, iPads and Android devices. Knowing that touch based controls haven’t always been to kind to iOS gaming, N.O.V.A. 3 might not be the new hardcore shooter for mobile gaming but definitely a way to brag with your hardware.

On May 12 players will get to see if the new N.O.V.A. plays as good as it looks.
