After its… unsettling reboot on the Xbox360, Jordan Weisman plans to bring back Shadowrun with the help of the new revival trend, Kickstarter.
In a similar fashion like Tim Schafer, who he pays homage to in his video, Weisman introduces his development team at Harebrained Schemes and how he plans to bring back the almost 25 year old RPG classic, giving us a quick rundown of the games history where he even addresses the disappointment that was Shadowrun on the Xbox360.
The revival project is supposed bring back the old-school vibe of Shadowrun, as a game “for the fans and for [the team at Harebrained]“. Luckily they were able to license the game for development on tablets and the PC.
Harebrained Schemes plan to deliver “a graphically rich 2D turn-based single player game with deep story interaction, meaningful character development, and highly-contextual tactical combat”. Players will be able to create their own character and hire Shadowrunners to support them on their missions, as well the characters developed by other users.
Reminiscent to the original pen and paper style of the game, where anyone could imagine their own story, the final game will be released together with the level editor so that any player can create their own campaign which can then be uploaded to the entire Shadowrun community.
Weisman is asking for $400,000 to make this idea come true so that one day you may be able “to drink virtual latés, with a femme fatale, who is probably a dragon in disguise, while blowing the crap out of everything around you with a smart gun… and isn’t that what we all want”.
So head on over to their Kickstarter page and make this world full of elven biker gangs, sewer orcs and laté drinking dragon women come true.
