A while back Namco Bandai announced their upcoming PlayStation 3-exclusive RPG called Tokitowa, but some new screenshots have hit the web that need to be seen to be believed.
The anime inspired JRPG is being developed by Imageepooch and features a new way of bringing anime to life in video games. Combining hand drawn 2D art with 3D backgrounds, Tokitowa delivers a look much closer to the source material than other cell-shaded titles. Namco Bandai describes this as “the world’s first HD animation RPG”.
High resolution screenshots have hit the web, though a teaser released in January gives you a feel of what the game looks like in motion, if only for a brief moment (wait for 0:47).
Yoshizumi Makoto of Namco Bandai explained in an interview with Famitsu magazine that the game’s main theme will be time, which will play a key role in the battle system. The story will be told through the eyes of a young royal couple whose marriage has formed the “Kamuza Kingdom”. Featuring serious, comical and sexy elements, Producer Kay Hirono promises a completely new title that is full of new experiences.
No further details on the games have been announced so far, though alone for the game’s style, I hope we will see a Western release.
