Every time we get a news story on The Last Guardian, we get a little more worried about Sony’s newest AAA title. Team Ico’s title has had a troubled past with no footage shown at this year’s TGS and Fumito Ueda and Yoshifusa Hayama leaving the project.
Things do not seem to be getting better either with Sony’s senior vice president of product development, Shuhei Yoshida, stating that the game may not be out by the end of 2013. Speaking to Jeuxvideo he said:
“No, sorry, I can not say that … Because the last time we talked about a date for The Last Guardian, we finally disappointed many people. But I can tell you that the team is working hard on the project, including the engine. It is precisely because the teams working on the technical aspect of the game that we have nothing concrete to show you today. So now I’m waiting for the right time to introduce you to The Last Guardian and speak with confidence of a release date.”
With the way everything is going for The Last Guardian, we would not be surprised if this became a next-gen title or a last hurrah for the PS3. The fact that Team Ico are still working on core parts of the game, like the its engine shows that work is still in the early stages. Hopefully we are wrong and we’ll see more of The Last Guardian sooner rather than later.
