Games are a special kind of medium that can move people like no other. So much so that many have found themselves singing and rapping about their favourite titles, making some truly amazing pieces. The amazing “Letter to Square Enix” from Richie Branson got us thinking other tracks inspired by video games. Everything from Hyrule’s green pastures to mining for palladium has been translated into a beautiful musical tribute. We’re bringing you the best of the bunch, both parodies and serious tunes!
The Legend of Zelda Rap:
This is one of the better parodies on the list. As soon as we heard lyrics like, “It’s a damn lie you told about Zelda ’cause she loves my Master Sword” were coupled with a rap battle between Ganandorf and Link this song made our list.
Street Fighter Riddim:
This UK grime track has so many soundbites from the game that we couldn’t even fit a list of them into this post! That or we were just too lazy to list them all because there are so many. Still we really like how the song mixes in Street Fighter lore with street slang becoming some weird geeky wannabee.
Mass Effect 2 Rap: Those Minerals:
Any song that manages to make something decent out of Mass Effect 2′s mining system deserves some credit. Commander Shepherd knows this and he’s certainly got those minerals.
Gears of War:
This song isn’t something that Epic Games paid Megadeath to do. This is something that they just did out of inspiration. The band is pretty big and although we aren’t too keen on the chorus, it makes up for it with some axe grinding.
Zelda Orcarina of Rhyme:
This is just one of the songs on the album, Zelda Orcarina of Rhyme. The whole thing is packed full of different hip-hop songs which have been remixed using tracks from the Nintendo series. Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg and Clipse are just a few big names that are on this album. Weird or genius? You decide.
Deckard Cain Rap:
If you know the name of this old chap you’ll probably have chuckled by the idea of this song. The rap comes from Diablo character Deckard Cain, an old wise member of the Horadric Mages who helps you with tasks in Diablo. Despite being a OAP, Cain clearly has some lyrical skills.
Avalanche:
This song has been taken from the Black Materia album by Random (Mega Ran) and Lost Perception and takes inspiration from Final Fantasy VII. Unlike The Orcarina of Rhyme it remixes tunes from the game to original lyrics. Sometimes they can get bogged down in Final Fantasy lore but we were pleasantly surprised by how well put together this album is.
