A feature released by The New Yorker on George Hotz aka GeoHot, has revealed that the renowned hacker has been working together with Sony to improve their security measures.
In May of 2011 Hotz was invited by Sony engineers, who were ager to hear about the Geo’s “methodology” which had “started the hacker wars”. Jim Kennedy, Senior Vice-President of Strategitc communications for Sony Corporation of America, explained in an interview, “We are always interested in exploring all avenues to better safeguard our systems and protect consumers.”
For those who don’t recall, George Hotz was stuck in a lawsuit with Sony in 2011 for jailbreaking their Playstation 3 hardware. “The PS3 has been on the market for over three years now, and it is yet to be hacked,” Hotz posted on his blog in 2009. “It’s time for that to change.”
With this news coming out about a year after the settlement between Sony and GeoHot, one has to wonder what contractual agreement was made between the Entertainment behemoth and the famous rapping computer wiz…
He is still a world renown tool bag.
It’s funny how the internet spins things around.
He is definitely not working with or at Sony.
He has had a few meetings with Sony last year to talk about his circumvention measures and what can be done against them.
That’s it! He wants nothing to do with Sony.
Kind regards,
Acquintance of George Hotz
Of course he doesn’t want anything to do with sony, my favorite quote from the feature was that if he saw lawyers there he was going to be an “asshole”. Thanks to Sony everybody calls him a criminal who belongs behind bars, some being so uninformed claiming he was behind the PSN hacks. If I were Hotz, I’d be pissed.
I never said he was working FOR or AT Sony but with them, in the sense that he assisted them in a few meetings. Many were reading into the title that he was now sitting at a desk at their offices, even asking questions if he wasn’t working at facebook anymore…
