Pokémon MMORPG in the works

A group of fans of the Pokémon series have come together to develop an MMORPG which users can now access for free.

Together, DefaulT and the community of RaGEZONE have launched the Beta of their latest endeavour “Pokemonium“, an open source Pokémon MMORPG based off of an online game tool RaGEZONE previously created which they dubbed “Pokenet”.

The title is still in development and being coded in Java, but players can access the beta version, in either x32 or x64 Bit, with the help of some Java tools.

Although the original build supported Mac and Linux, for now players will only be able to get their hands on the MMO if they are using a PC, although they plan to make the game available for both Mac and Linux in the future.

Creating an online Pokémon game is something fans have been asking for since I can remember. Even though the obvious question at hand would be how this will conflict with the original copyrights, seeing how smaller developers and communities are coming together to bring ideas, such as this, to life leaves me excited to see what the future of independent games will hold.
