Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes – Raiden’s origin?

Konami has released a huge chunk from their new Fox Engine demo that was revealed during the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event and it appears as if Snake could have possibly not been the only familiar face to show up.

Fairly early on in the footage we see a young boy stuck inside of a cage with headphones being somehow surgically connected to his chest. A closer look at the Metal Gear storyline leaves us to believe that this could be Raiden.

In the franchise’s lore, Raiden is said to have been conditioned as a soldier from an early age under the guidance of Solidus Snake. There are two lines of dialogue that hint at this as well, namely ”You’re a real man, now, soldier” and  ”Give my regards to your Boss”. Raiden aka Jack apparently started gaining a reputation for his skills at the age of ten where he fought in a Civil War in 1989. There he gained the nickname “Jack the Ripper” for his tremendous killing rate. By the looks of the boy in the video, his age could match up with Jack’s timeline, if Ground Zeroes would lead up to his rescue.

For now this is only speculation, but with Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance around the corner, we would not be surprised if there was a tie in, especially because a mystery character was hinted at.

Update: A user on n4g by the name of “onyoursistersback” has pointed out that in the leaked presentation, Kojima states that the boy is in fact Chico from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (check the video at 11:22)
