Xbox World Magazine has claimed that the new Microsoft console will feature a pad with its own touch sensitive screen. The new controller “will be a matt-black media hub with a mission to bring games to life in your living room with augmented reality, directional sound, and a four-player, finger-tracking Kinect.”
We wouldn’t be too shocked to see Microsoft do something like this. They clearly lost some distance on Nintendo’s hold on the casual gamer and released the Kinect. It seems a slightly extreme case here though as this isn’t a peripheral but something essential to play the console.
“It could be a remote control when you’re watching TV, a browser when you’re on the internet, extra buttons and information when you’re playing a game or a portable display when you want to take your game with you.”
I like the idea of controllers with screens but I also like my hands to slide into position when using a pad. Xbox World Magazine has claimed that the pad’s size will be around the same size as the PS Vita.
Other than that my only other worry is that these pads are going to be extremely expensive. No more throwing that pad around in anger then.
